Paralympic silver medal winning swimmer Aaron Moores, from Trowbridge, has become engaged to his girlfriend, Emma.

Aaron, 19, got down on one knee to pop the question to sweetheart Emma Walker, also 19, at the home of her mother, Christine Clamp.

Trowbridge Swimming Club member Aaron said he was more nervous proposing than competing at London’s Aquatics Centre during last year’s games, where he won a medal in the 100m backstroke (S14).

Aaron, who has learning difficulties, said: “I was really scared and I’ve never felt more nervous than asking Emma to marry me. I’m really happy she said yes.”

The pair, who have been together for nine months, met at the birthday party of Aaron’s brother, Luke, 23, last year.

The couple want to marry in September next year, with the future Mrs Moores hoping for a service at the Tithe Barn, Bradford on Avon.

She said: “The proposal came as a really nice surprise, as I could never see imagine myself with anyone else.”

Aaron asked the permission of Emma’s mother before he proposed on July 12.

Mrs Clamp, of Spring Meadows, said: “He was so sweet, wanting to be traditional. Aaron is lovely and I consider him as my adopted son.”

The pair, who are both doing a motor vehicle course, at Wiltshire College’s Trow-bridge campus, said they had received lots of good wishes from friends and relatives.

Aaron’s mum, Sue Moores, of Lamb Ale Green, said: “I’m really so very happy for them.”

An engagement party is planned before Aaron heads to Canada next month, for the IPC World Swimming Championships.
