John of Gaunt’s headteacher Andy Packer feels vindicated in disagreeing with a damning Ofsted report after a further inspection at the Trowbridge school.
Following an April inspection, the organisation stated that the school needed to improve. Key areas to be addressed included the quality of teaching, leadership and pupil achievement, an assessment described by Mr Packer as an injustice to the school.
A monitoring inspection on July 5, carried out by James Sage of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate, found that the school is performing at a good level.
He said: “Students take an active part in their learning. They work with interest and enthusiasm because the teaching is lively and engaging.
“Senior leaders focus relentlessly on improving students’ achievement while maintaining strengths in the all round care of its students.”
The school, in Wingfield Road, will have futher inspections in the new school year.
Mr Packer said: “It is great to hear that we are doing as well as we believed.
“I’m excited for the next year and being given the opportunity to right what our community in and around the school knows to be a wrong.”
Following April’s inspection, Mr Packer promoted two of the school’s teachers, Jo Worrall and Louise Hamilton, to the role of assistant headteachers.
He said: “This has allowed us to challenge teachers and subject areas to strengthen what we already practice.”
