Charity projects across the county are being given the chance to apply for grants worth thousands of pounds through the Wiltshire Times.

Each year the Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of this newspaper’s parent company, hands out awards of between £5,000 and £10,000 to local charities.

The foundation supports registered charities with projects which take a creative approach to fundamental issues such as education and neighbourhood improvem-ents, economic development, youth development, local problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged or disabled people, environmental conservation and also cultural enrichment.

While preference may be given to ideas which create a durable legacy for the community, the foundation will consider single events or projects of limited duration that otherwise meet the criteria.

The foundation will favour projects that demonstrate good planning, oversight and financial responsibility.

Previous winners include Splitz, a Trowbridge-based domestic violence charity, which received £5,490 in 2011 towards teaching vulnerable mothers how to cook nutritious meals for themselves and their babies, and Trowbridge’s Monday Wednesday Club.

The club received a grant in 2011 of £2,800, which went towards organising day trips for the 35 disabled adults it supports.

Deadline for entries is September 16, 2013. Along with submitting an application form, copies of the charity’s most recent financial accounts are required.

Any supporting material and further details concerning the overall aims of the charity should be included with each submission.
