Bands will take to the Town Park bandstand, Warminster, to play in a new, free music event next weekend.

The event, on Saturday, August 4, is sponsored by Enterprise Warminster and is the idea of Pete Bartley and Doug Halls, working as Inspire of Warminster.

The pair decided they wanted to encourage people of all ages to get involved in music or learn to play an instrument.

Running from noon until 6pm, Inspire will include performances from acoustic rock band Stamp, rock covers band Forgery, alternative band Area 53 and wind quartet 4play, an ensemble from Warm-inster Philharmonic.

There will also be dancers from Kingdown School and music workshops for people to try out instruments and get tuition from instructors.

Mr Halls, lead singer and bassist of Forgery, said: “We were playing at Pete’s bar and I said to him how the bandstand is never really used, so we had the idea of holding a festival.

“We also wanted to inspire people to pick up an instrument, which is why we decided to have a marquee with music teachers who will be able to help anybody interested in learning to play.

“If we can get more people interested in music and playing instruments, that would be great. It would be good to make it a regular event, as it is something Warminster really needs.”

Mr Bartley, the co-owner of Prestbury Sports Bar, said: “We want it to be a family occasion and we’re encouraging parents to come along with their children.”
