Well-known former Bradford on Avon milkman Mark Robinson died last Wednesday, after suffering a heart attack while walking his dog in Widbrook Wood.

The second of five children, he had worked as a butcher and a milkman before taking up his current job fitting bathrooms.

He met his wife, Elaine, when she was working in The King’s Arms, her parents’ pub, in 1983, and they were married three years later in Holy Trinity Church, going on to have three children, Mark, Leigh and Lauren, and two grandchildren, Jack and Teddy.

On leaving school he trained as a butcher, before covering a milk round in Winsley and Turleigh. A familiar sight in his shorts and T-shirt, he was known as the running milkman, and would stop to chat with his customers.

He later returned to butchery, and set up a shop in Midsomer Norton with his best friend, before going into the building trade as a self-employed bathroom fitter.

He and his family lived for many years in St Laurence Road before moving to London, returning two years later to live in St Aldhelm Road.

A keen football fan, he played for Bradford Town FC in his youth, later taking up golf as a member of Cumberwell Park Golf Club.

He was a dedicated family man, and acted as surrogate father to many people. A big admirer of Elvis Presley, he enjoyed karaoke, and sang as ‘the King’ at his wedding.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at West Wiltshire Crematorium, Semington, at 10.45am where a collection will be taken in his memory for a bench which will be put on the third hole at the golf club. His family have asked mourners not to dress in dark colours and for men to wear bright coloured ties, with family flowers only.
