Six former employees of Melksham’s United Dairies have met up more than 60 years after they worked for the firm together.

Pat Garwood came from her home in Hertfordshire to meet five former colleagues from the General Office, where she worked from 1950 to 1959.

The group lunched at the Bear Inn, which has a room dedicated to the town’s agricultural heritage, including decorative milk urns and pictures of the six friends’ former workplace.

Mrs Garwood said: “I started there when I was just over 15 and the first thing we had to do was learn how to use the telephone, as not many people had them at home and people were a bit scared of using them.

“They showed us how to use the switchboard and we used to book the milk lorries in.

“I left the town when I got married to my Len, who served in the RAF in the town.

“It was great to see everyone again and we fully intend to carry on meeting.”
