A woman who has outlived all her relatives celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and carers in a small private party at Henford House Care Home in Warminster on Monday.

Magdalene Dilworth, who never married or had children, has lived in Warminster for 35 years, after moving from her birthplace in New Mills, Derbyshire, to look after two of her sisters.

After leaving school, Miss Dilworth trained to be a primary school teacher and continued working in education until retiring and moving to a bungalow in Woodcock Gardens in Warminster.

Miss Dilworth, who had four sisters and three brothers, went into Abbey-field Warminster retirement properties after her two sisters died, before moving to Henford House more than six years ago.

She was a regular church-goer and went to St George’s Catholic Church in the town, where she would often do readings, until her late 80s.

Friend Eileen Knowles, who met Miss Dilworth at church, said: “I have known Magda ever since she moved to Warminster to look after her sisters.

“She can appear very serious, but there is very much a lighter side to her.

“Magda never had too many hobbies because she had to look after her sisters for many years, but she’s always enjoyed living in Warminster.

“Everyone at Henford House has been wonderful with her and she loves going around the gardens and looking at all the plants. She can name most of them as she was always a keen gardener.”
