An aspiring Chippenham composer received a cheque for £1,000 from the Trowbridge-based Wiltshire Rural Music School on Tuesday.
David Knight, 18, was given the Liz Lawrence Award at the start of the Wiltshire Assembly meeting held at County Hall, in Trowbridge.
Annually, the group, which formed in 1933 and has offices in Gloucester Road, runs the award to support a young musican in their studies.
David, who has just left Sheldon School Sixth Form, said: “It is a great privilege to have been selected by the judges and I’m very thankful to them.”
As part of his prize, David will be hosting a concert, which will be scheduled later in the year.
The composer, who plays the saxophone, piano and ukulele, will be beginning studies at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in September.
