Wiltshire Council has received permission to use the former George Ward School in Melksham for its offices for a further three years.
About 400 council staff moved to the old school in 2011, while County Hall in Trowbridge was being redeveloped.
The authority is obliged to renew its permission to use the buildings every three years, although the remaining staff are expected to return to their revamped offices in Trowbridge by the end of the year. The Melksham site is expected to be vacated in December.
