Commuters travelling by train are suffering delays this evening (Wednesday) following a fire on the Trowbridge line.
The incident happened at around 5.30pm with a stretch of grass, approaching the station, being reported to be on fire with trains on the line being stopped as a safety precaution.
Two fire crews from Trowbridge Fire Station put out the blaze at around 6.30pm and trains are now moving again but they are backlogged.
Debbie Burchill, who lives in Trowbridge and works in Bath as an insurance claims advisor, was travelling back from the city on a train when the incident happened.
She said: “Everybody had a seat but they were all looking hot, fed up and flapping anything that they have got to keep cool. I was glad I had some water.”
Those travelling on the next train behind were able to get off at Bradford on Avon Train Station while the services were postponed.
The cause of the fire is unknown at current.
Anyone with information can call Wiltshire Police on 101.
