Bradford on Avon dancing man Ben Hammond is bidding one last time to finish the challenge he started in August 2012, which has been blighted by misfortunes.

Mr Hammond, 35, had planned to dance from John O’Groats to Land’s End for charity. He had successfully passed through his home town of Bradford on Avon in October but was hit by a drink-driver dancing through Polsham, Somerset a few days later.

The dancer returned to the road just weeks after the accident, which left him with head injuries, but had to stop the challenge at the end of November because of recurrent injuries and issues with the support team.

He started where he left off in Dorset two weeks ago but has taken to the South West Coast Path to avoid further road accidents.

He said: “I don’t have a support team as big because of the crash and the support tricycle was a write-off.”

The former St Laurence pupil has so far raised £36,000 for charities supporting development in Burma and he is hoping people will continue to donate along the way.

He said: “Everyone has been so generous, throwing in their pennies and pounds. It was nice dancing on the road but even nicer dancing with people on the path.”

On completion of his 800-mile challenge, the money will be split between Amnesty International, Burma Campaign UK, Partners Relief and Development, Learn Burma and Prospect Burma.

Mr Hammond, who works at the Institute of Education in London, aims to finish at Land’s End on July 27.
