HAIRSTYLIST Tracy Allsop wants Trowbridge women to donate bras after visiting an area of Kenya that could benefit from her challenge.

Mrs Allsop set up a bra bank at M’dam & M’sieur, in Fore Street, in May.
BCR Global Textiles sends the collected clothes to small businesses in Africa and donates some of the money generated to Against Breast Cancer for every bag of bras received.

Last Thursday, Mrs Allsop and husband Peter, of Heywood, Westbury, returned from Nanyuki, in Kenya, where they visited their daughter, Stacey Jones, 25, and saw where the donated bras could end up being sold.

Mrs Allsop said: “When we first started collecting, I think we considered supporting the breast cancer charity to be the most important factor, but now, after going to Kenya and seeing the mitumba, which is a second-hand clothes market, I understand just how important reusing the bras is.”

Since the salon set up the bra bank, it has collected eight bin liners’ worth of bras and has set a target of collecting at least two more before its campaign ends on August 4.

Mrs Allsop said: “The response from our clients and members of the public has just been fantastic. Everyone at M’dam & M’sieur would like to say thank you for the contributions and appeal to anyone with old bras to drop them off at the salon.”

The UK campaign aims to raise £1.5m for charity Against Breast Cancer.
