Pupils at Atworth’s Stonar School have shown plenty of bottle, after they built a new greenhouse entirely out of recycled material.
Empty plastic bottles were threaded on to bamboo canes fixed in a wooded frame, and topped with plastic sheeting, to create a fully functional greenhouse.
Head of chemistry Pam Nix runs the school’s Allotment Club. She said: “By creating a recycled bottle greenhouse, pupils have been encouraged to think about waste and sustainability.
“They have taken responsibility for collecting bottles, threading them on to the canes and fitting them in to the frame.
“Their endeavours have now paid off, and we hope to get some crops started in the greenhouse ready for harvesting later in the year.”
