Visitors to Bellefield Primary School’s fete on Saturday enjoyed a good twist and shout as headteacher Steve Wigley performed the hits of The Beatles.

Mr Wigley lead staff, pupils and parents in a string of musical performances throughout the day that was raising funds for the school.

Mr Wigley said: “Nobody booed during the Beatles karaoke so that is a good sign but maybe they just couldn’t hear. Overall, the whole day went really well, and I’m really grateful to our PTA for all their hard work organising it.”

Attractions included face painting, a climbing wall and a barbecue with the unveiling of a new yurt building on the school’s grounds.

The facility will be used by pupils for lessons and play time.

Brian Hill, co-chairman of Bellefield Primary School’s PTA, said: “It went really well, we were delighted to raise £2,500 as it is double what we’ve raised previously and the weather that we ordered was just fantastic.”
