A glance across a dancefloor led to a lifetime of love for Westbury couple Chris and Daphne Osborne.

They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday at The Farmhouse Inn in Southwick with family and friends.

They were joined by their two sons, Paul and Phillip, their four grand children, Mrs Osborne’s two sisters and brother, Mr Osborne’s brother and friends.

Mrs Osborne, 74, who grew up in Haywood, said: “It was wonderful. We organised the party and we had a buffet meal and a lot of Chris’ old school friends were there.”

The couple met at The Regency in Bath in 1962 when Mr Osborne saw his future wife across the dance floor.

They soon found they had a lot in common, Mrs Osborne was a farmer’s daughter and Mr Osborne was a farmer, and they married a year later in Haywood Church.

Mr Osborne, 77, originally from Bath, remembers the day was pouring with rain, and even on their return from Jersey where they had spent their honeymoon, it was still raining.

They moved in together in Bath for three years, before moving to Westbury where they have been ever since, spending 40 years in Newtown and 11 years in Farleigh Close .

The couple had their first son Paul in 1964, then Phillip in 1967. Mrs Osborne stayed at home while Chris continued to work on a farm in Bath.

Mrs Osborne likes to swim and the couple like to walk together, look around the garden centres and visit National Trust places.

When asked what their secret was to a long and happy marriage the couple said: “It is about give and take. If you have said something you should not have said, say sorry.”
