The family of missing Amesbury man Carl Harris have been informed of the body on a railway line  today near Wyle.

The body was located this morning on the line at Middle Road Crossing. Formal identification has not been completed but Mr Harris; family have been informed.

The 43-year-old was last seen at Salisbury railway station last Monday night. Enquiries continued throughout last week and across the weekend.

Detective inspector Matt Johnson said: "Although formal ID has not yet taken place we have spoken with the family of Mr Harris and informed them of this development. At this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"We are still keen to hear from anyone who may have any knowledge of Carl’s movements over the last week and would urge people with information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Carl, who is described as white and of slim build with short brown hair, was wearing distinctive clothing when he went missing, including beige shorts, a bright orange polo shirt and white trainers.

Analysis of his mobile phone indicated that his phone was receiving a signal from a mast in the Deptford area (A36/A303 junction between Salisbury and Warminster) at approximately 2.40pm on Monday 1st July.

It may be that he walked or hitch-hiked to the area so officers are appealing to any drivers who travelled along the A36 from Salisbury to that area on the Monday afternoon and may have seen Carl to also contact police.
