THE achievements of young people from north Wiltshire were celebrated at a ceremony on Tuesday night.

Radio presenters Howard and Roo, from GWR, hosted this year's Wiltshire Young People's Awards held in County Hall, Trowbridge.

The awards are organised by Wiltshire County Council's youth development service.

Jake Batey, 15, and Lisa Brereton, 17, from the 1304 Chippenham Air Training Corps Squadron both picked up individual awards.

Lisa has had to overcome being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder to pass her senior cadet examinations. She has now reached the rank of cadet sergeant and has taken on a number of challenges, including a four-day 100-mile march and representing the South West Region ATC in swimming.

Jake has proved himself to be a keen and enthusiastic volunteer - helping raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund and the Royal British Legion. He has passed his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award and is working on achieving his silver.

Matthew Johnstone, 15, of Calne Youth Centre, and Jody Turner, 16 of Calne Youth Trust, also picked up individual awards.

In the group section Potley and Pockeridge Players Drama Group and The Dream Scheme Teams - which focus on improving the environment and community around Potley, Pockeridge and Rudloe - were among the award recipients.

Michael Howson and Alan Horner, of 1304 Chippenham ATC were also recognised for their dedication to youth work.

County council leader Jane Scott and members of the UK Youth Parliament were among a host of dignitaries at the ceremony.
