SOUTHERN PREMIER

DARREN Perrin has suggested a revamp of the Southern League to avoid the multitude of local derbies for clubs based in the south west.

The Chippenham boss believes Premier Division leaders King's Lynn have a distinct advantage over their promotion rivals because of their location in Norfolk.

The Bluebirds make the short trip to Yate tomorrow and Perrin says there will be no surprises between the teams.

He said: "It's another local derby but then it seems like they're all local derbies at the moment - we must play 10 a season.

"Team Bath come to us Tuesday and we play Clevedon in a couple of weeks.

"It might sound controversial but maybe a revamp is needed. Most of the teams in this area know each other inside out, which is why sides aren't giving much away this year."

Chippenham trail King's Lynn by six points having played two more games than the Linnets.

The Bluebirds need a win against Yate to halt their slide down the table, but Perrin expects another uncompromising encounter.

He said: "It will be fierce and we will have to roll our sleeves up for this one. We have a mounting injury list but we'll have to cope with what we've got."

Former Bluebird Steve Jenkins, who left the club in September, is hoping to show the Chippenham fans what they have been missing.

Jenkins said: "With Adam Garner and Ross Adams doing so well at the back for Chippenham it was hard for me to break into the side.

"I've had a run of games at Yate now and hopefully I will be involved on Saturday so I can show what I can do."

Chippenham will be without the suspended Mark Badman tomorrow. Ross Adams, Sean Seavill Alan Griffin and Ian Herring are all injury doubts. Team Bath visit Hardenhuish Park on Tuesday.
