THE achievements of young people from west Wiltshire were celebrated at a ceremony on Tuesday night.

Radio presenters Howard and Roo, from GWR, hosted this year's Wiltshire Young People's Awards held in County Hall, Trowbridge.

The awards are organised by Wiltshire County Council's youth development service.

Nic Turner, 15, of Bradford on Avon was among the recipients of an individual award.

Nic is group secretary of the Bradford on Avon and District Youth Council and has written to politicians about issues including the demolition of a local bike track. He also attends the Locality Young People's Issues Group and Community Safety Partnership.

In the group category, Trowbridge-based Targeting Youth picked up an award.

The group helps young people who have been excluded from education, teaching them archery and then encouraging them to teach the skill to children in primary schools.

County council leader Jane Scott and members of the UK Youth Parliament were among dignitaries at the ceremony.
