CAMPAIGNERS for climate change in Bradford on Avon took part in a national rally in London on Saturday.

A coach load of people representing various groups including Christian Aid, the RSPB and the newly formed Climate Friendly Bradford group set out early in the morning for the protest.

One of the youngest protesters on the coach, eight-year-old George Gaisford, of Gastard, said: "I came because I care about the climate and the planet." Once in London, the group joined other campaigners waving placards outside the American Embassy to put some pressure on the US government to take climate change more seriously.

There was a procession to Trafalgar Square where a 25,000-strong crowd of protesters listened to speeches from various people and performances from Razorlight and KT Tunstall.

Symbolically, during the day an ice sculpture of the Prime Minister's head melted in the sun.

After the protest Climate Friendly group member Mary Allen said: "There were very good speakers who were quite moving, and there was a feeling that something's really going to happen to change."

West Wiltshire District councillor Duncan Hames also attended the rally and said the day was all about ordinary people having their voices heard.
