CHIPPENHAM were dumped out of the FA Trophy at the hands of lower league Didcot after a thrilling cup tie in Oxfordshire last night - the home side winning 3-1 after extra-time.
Didcot took an early lead when Paul Milsom's misjudged back-header was collected by Stuart Beavon, who rounded Chris Snoddy to score.
Chippenham woke up after 15 minutes and peppered the Didcot goal for the remainder of the half. Alan Griffin and Dave Gilroy both saw efforts smothered by goalkeeper Chris Webb and Kye Holly's dipping free-kick was also tipped over.
Defender Ross Adams was taken to hospital during the interval after it was suspected he had swallowed his tongue after a heavy challenge.
The Bluebirds pulled level on the hour mark when Gilroy raced onto Sean Seavill's defence-splitting pass and calmly lifted the ball over the advancing Webb.
Webb then saved well from Griffin to keep the home side in the game and force 30 minutes of extra time.
Chippenham had a penalty claim turned down when it appeared Jack King had handled in the box. Seconds later, Didcot went in front when Jamie Brooks raced onto a Beavon back-heel and beat Chris Snoddy with the aid of a deflection off Adam Garner.
There was a question of handball in the build-up to Didcot's third goal two minutes later, but there was no question about the finish as Beavon drilled a low shot in off the post.
Griffin was sent off in stoppage time for a petulant shove on substitute Gary Wickens as Chippenham's Trophy dream evaporated in the gathering fog.
The reward for the hosts is a home tie against Conference South outfit Newport County in the next round.
For Chippenham it is back to league action against Yate on Saturday.
