CHIPPENHAM are hoping to forge strong links with League Two outfit Walsall following Tuesday night's successful friendly at Hardenhuish Park.

The two sides were due to play each other during pre-season but the Saddlers postponed because they couldn't field a first team side as promised.

Tuesday's line-up included former Republic of Ireland midfielder Mark Kinsella and ex-Reading defender Chris Westwood.

Chippenham boss Darren Perrin described the match as a "fantastic experience" for his players and hinted at a possible relationship between the clubs.

Perrin said: "I spoke to their manager Richard Money before the game and he said Walsall might be interested in coming back for a pre-season friendly next year.

"After the match he told me what a good side we've got so hopefully we'll see them down here again."

Perrin suggested Chippenham could take some of Walsall's younger players to Hardenhuish Park on loan, a move which was not ruled out by Money.

The Walsall boss said: "Chippenham played some good stuff tonight. Having seen the way they set themselves up there could be a chance that a loan player may come down here."

But Money ruled out a possible return for striker James Constable, who is under contract at the Bescott Stadium until the end of the season.

"No chance," he said.

Perrin confirmed he had enquired about a possible loan bid for Constable towards the end of last season but was met with the same answer.

He said: "I asked if we could bring James back here to Chippenham and Walsall said no.

"I'm just glad we had him here for the short time we did. Credit must go to Steve White for bringing him to the football club, but I'd like to think we took him on another phase or two last season.

"In the end James got the move he thoroughly deserved and I hope he goes on to even bigger and better things."
