I HAVE been involved with trees for in excess of 30 years, yet despite attaining a degree in agroforestry it never angers me more to find multinationals felling trees simply in the name of bigger profits.

The decision-makers in these mindless acts of vandalism do not even have the courtesy to consult the planners, environment officers and least of all the public.

Tesco of Trowbridge have destroyed at least half a dozen mature maples, all to make way for more parking space.

It might help if there were some attempt to redress this act if replacement trees were planted at another site. Alternatively make a donation to any of the NGOs such as Woodland Trust or International Tree Foundation, to name but a few.

It has been researched by the most eminent dendrologists in the UK and the USA that trees of the right species actually reduce air pollution emanating from cars.

So not only do Tesco in their infinite wisdom exacerbate global warming, but remove the very plants that go a long way in stopping it.
