Gloucester Golf Club's first pro-am for 20 years was abandoned when torrential rain saturated the course with half the field still to start.
Captain Bill Boucher, who put so much effort into the event, said: "It was so sad for everyone who supported the event but it was impossible to continue."
It could not be rearranged as there were no suitable dates, but the club are not deterred and will be staging it next year.
West Region tournament controller Andy Holding said: "I feel so sorry for all those people who worked so hard and to the players and teams who supported Bill's great efforts."
