Devon golfer Steve Cook has become the first totally blind golfer in 18 years to win the British Blind Masters Championship at Patsull Park, Staffordshire, after a blistering final.
He was 13 strokes behind leader Duncan Bickerton and seemingly out of contention at the start of the final round. But a net fourth round 59 gave the China Fleet member a two-shot victory.
Cook, who became the first B1 category golfer to win the English MatchPlay Championship in 15 years a year ago, said: "Because I was so far behind going into the final round and had written off my chances I was able to be totally relaxed and that obviously helped my game."
Cook started with 66, and followed with 69 and 71 to lie third going into the last round.
As he also achieved his highest ever finish in the English Blind Golf Association's Order of Merit table, he represented England against Scotland at Meon Valley, Southampton.
