Hamptworth's first pro-am was a triumph for Wiltshire professional David Hutton and made up in part for his failure to progress in his bid to win a place on the European Tour.

Hutton, 31, who is attached to High Post, took an early lead with a four-under-par 68 but was later caught by Andrew Sherborne, who picked up all his shots on the back nine he completed in 32, and fellow Bristolian George Ryall.

Hutton's team of locals, Peter Say, Dave Searle and Dave Sargeant, posted a team score of 18-under-par 126 that held up all day in the 30-team event sponsored by club captain Graham Cooper of Ross Electrical who made the presentation.

Co-owner and PGA professional Phil Stevens won a special award for the shot of the day when he chipped in on the 17th.

His co-director Mark Lawrence again arranged for three of the county's most talented youngsters to play as a team in the pro-am organised by home pro Andy Beal.

Cumberwell Park's Ali James and Matt Swales and a third scratch player Sam Matton (Broome Manor) played alongside Sherborne and they finished in second place.
