Albert MacKenzie hardly has time to play as his priority in the summer is to attend to the requirements of the members and many visitors to the two courses at Saunton in North Devon.
MacKenzie, 44, the club professional at Saunton for eight years, took a Sunday off to play at Oake Manor, near Taunton.
It proved to be a sound decision for he achieved a one-shot success over a pressing trio of Wales National champion Sean Bebb, Nick Horrocks, the talented 6ft 4in Devon player from Plymouth Golf Centre and Jon Bevan from Wessex Golf Centre who qualified for The Open at Hoylake.
Home club assistant Lewis Hanney played the best round of his brief professional career to share third place.
Oake Manor: - 65-5 Albert MacKenzie (Saunton) £761, 66 Sion Bebb (Vale of Glamorgan), Nick Horrocks (Plymouth Golf Centre), Jon Bevan (Wessex Golf Centre) £480 each 68 Lewis Hanney (Oake Manor), Andrew Sherborne (Kendleshire), Graham Howell ( Ferndown Forest), Neil Holman (Torbay), Steven Ritchie (Farrington) £240.
