Teignmouth's Sean Mason earned more than £1,000 by winning both the individual and team prizes in the Exeter Pro-Am.
Yet winning was the last thing on his mind after a wretched start. He dropped four shots in the first six holes before making seven birdies on the final 12 holes.
The birdies helped his team of Teignmouth's Colin Papworth and Exeter pair Ian Black and George Setter, representing Marsh Ltd, take the team prize.
The pivotal hole was the new 16th which has been extended to 183 yards and is one of the toughest on the course, especially in the windy conditions experienced on Sunday.
Mason made a two but Andrew Sherborne, who played three hours later when the wind was at its strongest, took four. Sherborne ended in second spot, one shot behind Mason.
The Home Farm Trust and the Stroke Association received £6,000 on the day from this year's Exeter captain Ben Lynch with the promise of at least £2,000 more to come.
