MUSIC fans raised almost £200 for charity at the Neeld Hall in Chippenham, when over 100 people showed their support for Oxfam by attending the Oxjam Chippenham event, featuring four local music acts.
All the profits of the five-hour live music event, which included entrance tickets and donations made on the day, is going to Oxfam as part of the Oxjam, the first nationwide and month-long music festival.
In total £165 was raised by the organisers Jahooly.
In a change to the scheduled line-up Halagoogoo headlined the event after Birmingham-based Shady Bard were unable to make the trip to Chippenham.
Shady Bard's lead singer, and van driver, banged his head when loading the band's equipment and ended up in casualty, leaving the BBC Radio Six favourites stranded in the Midlands.
Bristolian trio Halagoogoo were more than up to the task and got everybody dancing with their funky sound and stage attire.
Halagoogoo were ably supported by Swindon's Electric City Heights, Chippenham Battle of the Bands winners Uranium, pictured top right, and Nixa, who were a huge success after making the trip from London for their debut performance.
The Neeld Hall was apparently sceptical about hosting Oxjam Chippenham after vandalism and under-age-drinking at two recent music events (with no links to Jahooly) but they have described Oxjam Chippenham as a huge success and very well organised.
Luke Tinklin, the Oxjam event co-ordinator, said: "It was great and a lot of fun. All of the bands were great and the DJs were amazing. I've learned a lot and would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who came."
THERE is a rare chance to catch the legendary Welsh rockers Budgie, pictured, at the Cheese and Grain in Frome on November 11, when they take in the venue on a national tour to promote their first studio album in 20 years.
Featuring founder members Burke Shelley and Steve Williams, the band have been playing the European Festival circuit over the summer following a remastered CD box set and DVD release. Budgie were a stadium rock band in the 70s and 80s so this is a chance to hear them live again.
Tickets, at £10 (£12 on the door) are available now from the Cheese and Grain box office on (01373) 455420 and from Raves from the Grave on (01373) 464666.
