Published on 02/11/2018
PITURA Tadeusz (Ted) First-generation Polish refugee, has died aged 85. Ted was born in Baworowszczyzna, then Eastern Poland (now Ukraine) on March 29, 1933. The Pitura family arrived in the UK in 1952 and settled in a refugee camp in Steeple Ashton before moving to Trowbridge and later Hilperton. Ted met Jocelyn (Joy) Turner in 1955 and they married in St. John's Church in Trowbridge in 1959. Ted worked in McCalls, a woollen mill in Trowbridge, and later in The Avon Rubber Company in Melksham, for Rex Rubber at Freshford, and Buxted Chicken in Devizes. Ted and Joy bought Rose Cottage Farm in Seend in 1958, where they lived and Ted farmed (retiring in 2002) the rest of his life. In February 1977, Ted and Joy welcomed their only son, David, into the family. David married Gita Bal in 2011 and together, they welcomed sons Theo (2013) and George (2016), both of whom will miss their Grampy tremendously. Ted proved that one's 80s could be the prime of one's life as he travelled extensively in the USA, after beating skin cancer at the age of 79. Earlier this year, Ted completed an epic journey around India, including a trip to the refugee camp where he lived as a child. Ted leaves behind Joy, David, Gita, Theo and George as well as his brother, two sisters, nine nieces and nephews, and five sisters and brothers-in-law. Ted's funeral will take place at 11am on November 8th at St John's Roman Catholic Church, Trowbridge, followed by a cremation at West Wiltshire Crematorium, Semington at 12.15am. Donations in his memory can be made to the Oxford Hospitals Charity via DJ Bewley Funeral Director's on (01225) 702521 or online at www.hospitalcharity.co.uk
