Aubrey WINTER

WINTER ARIBA Aubrey Retired architect, passed away peacefully on 29th June 2018 at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. Aubrey was born on 13/06/1929 in Little Kimble, Buckinghamshire. After the war, Aubrey served his National Service with the Royal Engineers in Germany. He met Edith in 1949 in High Wycombe and they were married in Hazlemere Parish Church in July 1956. After a honeymoon in Switzerland, they moved to Melksham, where they had three children - Jacqueline, Geoffrey and Christopher. In August 1956, Aubrey opened a branch office in Melksham for his practice, Thurlow, Lucas and Janes. Aubrey was a member of the Wiltshire branch of the RIBA for many years, including chairmanship. He involved himself in many activities, including being a founder member and Chairman of Melksham and Corsham Round Table. During his membership he organised the creation of the Riverside Club, where he was a Trustee for many years. Aubrey was a founder member and initial chairman of the Wiltshire Building Records. He became a founder member of Melksham Town Trust and served as inaugural Chairman. Aubrey was a Governor at Lowbourne Junior School for ten years. He was a Trustee of the Independent Living Centre at Semington and was Chairman of the millennium scheme for creating the Riverside Walk in Melksham. Aubrey received three Community Service Awards for dedicated service to the Community of Melksham. Aubrey enjoyed playing golf at Kingsdown Golf Club, where he was a Trustee and finally President. He was a season ticket holder at Bath Rugby Club, enjoyed watching cricket, being a member of a wine group and was a member of Probus following his retirement. He was a weekly member of the Dining Club in Holt and took a keen interest in his garden. Edith, the great love of Aubrey's life, died in 2014. Aubrey is survived by his three children, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. His funeral will be held at West Wiltshire Crematorium, Friday 13th July at 4pm.
