Welsh National Opera Tuesday, November 14 until Saturday, November 18, Bristol Hippodrome.
Welsh National Opera returns to Bristol Hippodrome with an eclectic and ambitious programme: from traditional favourite La Bohme (with internationally renowned Welsh soprano Rebecca Evans making her debut as Mimi) to The Return of Ulysses, a show which promises spectacular visual effects.
- Sought after director David Alden and renowned conductor Rinaldo Alessandrini take a witty, eccentric and spectacular approach in a new production of Monteverdi's The Return of Ulysses. Diary date: Tuesday, November 14.
- WNO's internationally renowned chorus steps into the spotlight in a show that will encapsulate 400 years of opera in just two hours. Chorus! includes familiar melodies from a host of productions; it also showcases the talents of individual chorus members who in previous lives have worked as policemen, a body double - even a Latin teacher. Chorus! is supported by The Foyle Foundation. Diary date: Thursday, November 16.
- Mark Wigglesworth conducts his first Tristan and Isolde. An outstanding cast of Wagnerians has been assembled for this production, including Annalena Persson (who sang in WNO's The Flying Dutchman alongside Bryn Terfel). A co-production with Scottish Opera. Diary date: Saturday, November 18.
- Puccini's much-loved opera La Bohme is given an unusual twist in this production: it boasts an all Welsh cast of principals, including Rebecca Evans, Jason Howard and Gwyn Hughes Jones. Diary date: Wednesday, November 15 and Friday, November 17.
