Wiltshire Council’s highways department has revealed its schedule for repairing the potholed roads in Devizes and the villages around the town.
And it’s bad news for some who will be waiting until 2027 for resurfacing to be done.
The county’s council will spend £3.4 million on road repairs in an around Devizes over the next five years.
But for villagers in Poulshot, Potterne, West Lavington, Market Lavington, Bishops Cannings and Worton the work on their local roads won’t be done before 2026 at least.
Town councillors have called on Cllr Iain Wallis, their representative on Wiltshire Council, to press for road repairs in the area to be reprioritised.
Cllr Wallis said that he “shared the frustration of the community” but pointed out that Wiltshire Council would spend £687,000 on Devizes roads this year, £745,000 in 2023/24, £495,000 in 2024/25, £785,000 in 2025/26 and £735,000 in 2026/27.
“I can assure everyone in this room that Wiltshire councillors lobby hard for their patch all of the time, but it is the highways engineers who make the decisions," he said.
"We have to allow the officers to set the priorities based on their criteria for safety and urgency.”
