Wiltshire’s Olympics hero Kate French has won the MBE for services to modern pentathlon.

Kate, 30, from Chapmanslade, is a Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gold medallist in the modern pentathlon and is the first British competitor to win since Steph Cook took Gold at the Sydney Games in 2000. She also broke the Olympic record for overall points in the event.

She has competed and won medals in many World Championships and events since 2010, including winning gold medals in the women’s team event at the European Pentathlon Championships.

At the 2014 World Modern Pentathlon Championships, she won two silver medals. 2017 saw her most successful season with a silver medal at World Cup 1 in Los Angeles and a gold medal at World Cup 2 in Cairo.

Due to this success, she achieved a world ranking high of number 2.

Dan Hayes, chief executive of The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), has been awarded an OBE for his services to the social care sector. OSJCT is one of the UK’s leading not-for-profit care providers. It manages 65 care homes including 16 in Wiltshire.

Dan said: “I am absolutely delighted to receive this recognition, but also clear that the award would not have been made if I hadn’t been fortunate enough to spend my social care career with OSJCT. It’s my great good fortune to represent literally thousands of OSJCT colleagues who deserve similar recognition for what they continue to do, and who have carried me to the honour.

"In the truest sense, this OBE is for them, and it is in recognition of the lives they make better through their love and professionalism every day.”
