COVID cases in the county have declined across Wiltshire but remain higher than the England average.

As of 6.20pm on Monday, November 1, there were 3,155 new recorded cases of Covid-19 in the last seven days. This compares to 4,672 new cases a week prior.

This means that the current case rate per 100,000 people is 625.9 where last week the same figure was 928.2.

The case rate for England currently stands at 422.5.

Since the start of the pandemic there have been more than 50,000 recorded cases of the virus – currently, the total number of cases is 52,659.

Up to October 15, 883 people have died as a result of coronavirus. This means in the last week two more people have died.

Director of public health, Kate Blackburn said: “Our thoughts go out to those who continue to be impacted by this virus.

“Although overall case numbers have decreased in the past week they still continue to be very high.

“We are waiting to see the full impact of half-term may be on this evolving picture. It could be that it could act as a mini-circuit break, given that cases tend to be highest in the 10 to 14 age range.

“But with schools going back it's likely we’ll continue to see the virus circulate.”

Mrs Blackburn told journalists at the latest Covid-19 briefing that the drop in cases was the impact of the Immensa false negative test scandal working its way out of the county.
