DOZENS of west Wiltshire men sported moustaches this month to raise money for charity.

Bradford on Avon mayor Peter Leach was among those showing their support for the Movember prostate cancer charity.

Cllr Leach said: “It is quite surprising just how many people you see who are involved with it. It has been a good bit of fun and I’m hoping to raise around £300.

“Sometimes you forget you have the moustache and when people mention it on the street you’re momentarily surprised.”

Cllr Leach shaved his moustache off on December 1 – and said he wasn’t tempted to keep it a little longer.

Also joining in the tache-growing challenge were 14 staff from Westbury firm Heritage Volks-wagen, who raised £1,083.

Master technician Andy Winfield, 30, of Wiltshire Drive, Trowbridge, said: “We are all clean-shaven normally so these moustaches will be coming off tonight.

“It is uncomfortable so it is a bit of a labour of love maintaining it for the month.

“Down here we have had anything from the ‘trucker’, which is handlebar moustache, to two guys who had the ‘slug’, and one guy who had a Charlie Chaplin.

“We are hoping to do something a bit bigger next year, like walk up Snowdonia with our moustaches or something like that.

“It is obviously a good cause, anything this does to help fight prostate cancer may well end up helping us in future.”

The firm has also organised a raffle, with gifts from Wurth, Kevin Arts, Pickleberry café in Bratton and English Rose salon in Calne, from which it is hoping to raise an extra £200.
