THE giant chimney which towers over the former Nestlé factory in Staverton will be taken down this weekend, as it is no longer needed.
The chimney, now part of the Cereal Partners business, will be taken down by workmen, in stages, beginning at 6am tomorrow (Saturday).
The chimney is being taken down manually rather than being knocked down to prevent any risk to the surrounding buildings.
CPUK’s own construction company will be carrying out the work, which will be easily seen from the nearby area. No spectators will be allowed on site during the work.
The chimney is expected to be completely demolished by the end of Saturday, but work may run into Sunday.
