VOLUNTEERS have helped safeguard the future of Wiltshire’s libraries in a move which will see new opening hours introduced from September 5.
Thanks to the efforts of more than 300 people all the county’s 31 libraries will remain open, at a time when government cuts have resulted in closures nationally. All five of Wiltshire Council’s mobile library routes will also continue, serving the county’s most rural communities.
Deputy leader of the council, John Thomson, said: “I would like to thank local people who have played a huge part in helping to keep all our libraries open. It is wonderful our libraries are so well supported and I hope people continue to use the excellent facilities which they offer.”
