NEW neighbourhood policing teams are better equipped to serve the community thanks to a donation from Tesco of two patrol cars.
The Toyota Aygo cars were presented to the police at a business breakfast at Cumberwell Park Golf Club in Bradford on Avon on Friday.
Police Inspector Dave Cullop, based at Trowbridge accepted the donation from Felix Gummer, from Tesco, and Peter James, from Renrod, which provided the cars.
A spokesman for the Wessex Association of Chambers of Commerce, said: "The police approached the Chamber of Commerce to find a way of helping them provide some vehicles for new neighbourhood policing teams.
"Tesco are working with the community and took up the opportunity to sponsor these two cars. The police are very grateful for that support.
"It is really encouraging. The police had funding to set up the neighbourhood teams but did not get additional vehicles.
"If they had to walk to some of the more far flung stretches it would take too long. With these cars they can get to places more easily."
