PEOPLE living on canal boats raised the alarm when fire ripped through a boat at Sells Green near Seend last night (February 3).
Today investigations are going on to decide if the fire was started deliberately.
Dorset and Wiltshire fire service said: "We were called to Scott Wharf Bridge on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Sells Green at 9.18pm last night for a fire involving a narrow boat.
"Five fire engines were sent, two from Devizes, two from Trowbridge and one from Melksham, along with an operational support unit from Swindon, a water rescue vehicle from Trowbridge and a Land Rover pump from Westbury.
"The stop came at 10.54pm, everyone had been accounted for but the boat had been destroyed.
"Two breathing apparatus wearers, two main jets and a light portable pump were used to fight the fire.
"The cause of the fire is being investigated today."
Police closed the canal footpath at 10.05pm. The boat was completely destroyed.
