A major road in Wiltshire is still closed for crash investigation work according to police.

The A4 near Avebury has been closed between Cherhill and the A361 (Beckhampton) since yesterday evening.

It follows a ‘serious road traffic collision’, with a police spokesperson saying around 6.30am the road should be open in a 'couple of hours’.

The Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that the A4 between Cherhill and the Beckhampton roundabout remains closed for investigatory work and recovery following yesterday evening's collision.

“We are hoping to be able to reopen the road within the next couple of hours.”

This follows yesterday’s statement: “Please be aware that the A4 between the Beckhampton roundabout and Cherhill is currently closed following a serious RTC.

“The road is likely to be closed for several hours.

“Please avoid the area.”

Police thanked the public for their patience.
