A prominent Grade II listed village pub in Wiltshire has been put up for sale, triggering an extraordinary council meeting.
The George and Dragon Inn, a Wadworth-owned pub on Potterne High Street, has been put on the market for offers in the region of £395,000.
Savills, the estate agent listing the venue, says that it remains open for trading during this process.
The village pub is listed as an asset of community value.
This means the owners will be unable to sell the property until the end of a six-month moratorium period if a community interest group requests to be treated as a potential bidder.
Potterne Parish Council has scheduled an extraordinary parish council meeting for Wednesday, April 24, at which they will decide whether to trigger a moratorium.
In the meantime, an interim six-week moratorium is in place until May 1.
Wadworth will be under no obligation to sell to any community group that may bid for the pub.
In the listing, Savills says the pub could have potential for alternative uses, subject to planning permission.
The venue is described as a thatched pub with “characterful trade areas and traditional features”.
The building has a main bar area, a games area, extensive upper accommodation, and a grassed beer garden.
Wadworth was contacted for comment.
